Playwriting

Playwriting (All levels) will provide inspiration and structure to support participants in writing an original play. Participants will plan to write either a ten-page play or the first ten pages (or more) of a longer play. We will read scenes from a set of plays diverse in style and content by authors such as August Wilson, Maria Irene Fornes, Eugene O'Neill, Tony Kushner and Anne Washburn. We will analyze and discuss aspects of those scenes, using our analysis to form a vocabulary of key components of dramatic writing. As participants create their own pieces, we will share their works-in-progress in our meetings. Our work will culminate in a public reading of participants' writing at the Patriots Park Lodge.
Coventry Arts Guild programming is supported in part by Connecticut Humanities and the Town of Coventry.
